Free phone cards are provided to troops to reconnect with loved ones. Free Internet and computer usage are other ways for servicemen and women to stay in touch with their families.
USO Houston offers the following services for troops and military families:
Free Wifi and Computer Usage. Keeping service members connected with their families is a priority of the USO. Our Houston USO Centers feature free wireless Internet access so troops can use their mobile devices and laptops to access their email, social media, and Skype. Each Center has a bank of computers for troops and family members who may not have a mobile device on hand, plus we offer free use of landline telephones.
USO Photo Book. The USO and RocketLife, inventor of award-winning new media technologies, have partnered to deliver a heart-warming opportunity for the men and women of the armed forces and their families. The USO Photo Book program enables friends and family to create and send a photo book to any service member stationed abroad – for free.
These full-color, customized photo books are small enough to fit in a soldier's cargo pocket yet can hold more than 60 photos of loved ones. RocketLife prints the books for free and the USO pays for shipping. Any additional purchases through the site benefit the work of the USO. With RocketLife's Smart Arrangement technology, anyone can create a unique photo book in as little as three minutes or take more time and customize it extensively. The USO and RocketLife hope this personal gift from home will bring warmth to the lives of our soldiers overseas and help them connect more closely with their families and supporters back home.
To get started, visit http://USO.RocketLifeProduction.com and enter a valid APO/FPO/MPO address. RocketLife will then email a discount code and a link to launch its photo book software.
USO Operation Phone Home.* Established in 2003, USO Operation Phone Home™ delivers prepaid international phone cards to deployed troops free of charge. The phone cards are distributed through USO centers overseas and, most often, are delivered directly to military units abroad. As deployments increase and the needs of the military change, the USO has developed a private telephone network (PTN), available in USO centers throughout Southwest Asia.
The phone cards and PTN are ways deployed troops can stay connected with their family. One hundred percent of the money raised for the USO Operation Phone Home program goes to the purchase of phone cards and operation of the PTN. Request phone cards at this link: http://www.uso.org/uso-operation-phone-home.aspx.
